JAMES SPARBER
AUDIO ENGINEER | COMPOSER
James Sparber is an audio engineer and composer. He combines an interest in programming electronic compositions with the live playing of the many working musicians that perform in his various ensembles. He believes in the power of recorded audio to solve problems and express ideas in a way that other mediums can’t.
James has more than 20 years of experience producing, recording, editing, and composing, in both live and studio settings. In 2005, his former band Breakup Breakdown signed a deal with Warner Music Group label Cordless Records and a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, resulting in the release of two records of his compositions. His live scores and sound design with Colonna Sonora and Toy Box Theatre Company have received two NYITA nominations. He also composes and produces for several other projects including country-folk band Money & King and synth industrial trio Brutalist Songbook. His composition, “There Are So Many Ways To Be Alone”, which he also produced, was recently selected for the soundtrack to the comedy documentary, The Unbookables. Money & King recently released their second album produced by James, There Are So Many Ways To Be Alone.
James was the head engineer for the business and branding podcast, The Brand Hole. Other recent projects include arranging, recording and mixing the Mishka Shubaly LP When We Were Animals, currently available from Wide Mouth Records, and Mishka Shubaly's Never Touring Again: Live In Memphis, which went to #2 on the iTunes Comedy charts.
Amongst other podcast work, James most recently mixed and edited season 2 of Ashley Graham’s YouTube series and podcast, Pretty Big Deal.
James is a registered member of ASCAP.
